How Houseplants Help Us
Studies have shown that people who have houseplants are more satisfied with life than those without. Our minds are incredibly powerful and can influence our health! Here's some ways indoor plants psychologically benefit us:

They boost your mood!

A microbe found in soil works as a natural antidepressant.

They reduce anxiety!

Plants make us feel calm. Looking at a living, green plant brings a relaxing sensation that no TV or computer can mirror!

They make you more creative!

Plants improve your concentration, memory, and creativity! Studies show that cognitive performance is actually better in offices with plants.

They purify the air of toxins!

Cleaning supplies, beauty products, & smoke: all of these things harm our brains in the air but plants can help!

They speed up healing!

It's been shown that patients recover quicker from surgery when their hospital rooms have plants & flowers in them!

They reduce effects of stress!

If you consider yourself a stressed person, make your stressful environments more calming by adding
 houseplants!

They reduce sick days!

Plants emit an airborne anti-fungal and antibacterial compound, so being around plants means you're constantly being exposed to natural medicine!

They improve your sleep!

Since they naturally purify the air, having a few in your bedroom will improve the quality of your sleep.

They give us a sense of purpose!

Being the reason a living thing is alive and well is beautiful and empowering

Air Cleaning Houseplants

Stagnant, indoor environments allow pollutants to build up and stick around in greater amounts than we should be breathing in. We spend a lot of our time indoors, so air quality is particularly important. Indoor air pollutants are made worse by small, poorly-ventilated spaces. But don't worry, there's good news! There's an easy, affordable, and natural way to combat this- houseplants!! Adding potted plants to rooms increase the quality of our indoor air.

But How?
Plants absorb some of the particulates from the air at the same time that they take in carbon dioxide. Microbes present in the potting soil are also responsible for much of their "cleaning effect." Plants just make people feel better! Don't be intimidated by the fear of committing to taking care of plants. Many houseplants are so easy to take care of and require minimal maintenance! All houseplants are relatively easy, but below are some of the easiest!

Spider Plant

This is a great choice for beginners! One of the easiest to grow and loves bright, indirect sunlight. This houseplant removes the pollutants formaldehyde and xylene from the air.

Peace Lily

This houseplant is relatively small compared to the others, but it still gets the job done. It removes the pollutants ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene from the air! Its blooms are fragrant throughout the summer and it enjoys shady areas.

Boston Fern

These plants like to take their air cleaning abilities to a cooler location with high humidity and indirect sunlight. They need to stay moist and they remove the pollutants formaldehyde and xylene from the air!

Snake Plant

This is one of the hardiest houseplants you can get! They only require the occasional watering, preferring drier conditions and only some sunlight. The pollutants they remove are benzene, formaldehyde, xylene, and trichloroethylene.

Bamboo Palm

These plants thrive in full sunlight, so place them by a window for the best results! They can grow pretty tall (up to 12 ft) making them exciting and part of the reason they filter so much air! The pollutants they remove are benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene

Aloe Vera

This plant's leaves contain a clear liquid full of vitamins, enzymes, and amino acids that have would healing and anti-inflammatory properties! This plant also removes the pollutant formaldehyde from the air.
