Just because Perennial Month has ended doesn't mean the perennials are stopping! Also known as Ornamental Onion, these perennials are sun-lovers and one of the most interesting blooms in the summer garden with their spherical shape that holds its form throughout the season! Deer, rabbits, and other related garden animals generally avoid alliums, so you can plant with freedom!
Designing with Allium
Charming plants for the rock or herb garden! When their foliage is bruised, they have a faint onion smell to them, granted since they are part of the onion family.
Planted in loose clusters of five or more, alliums will add drama to the garden all season. They are brilliant for creating drifts through cottage garden plantings, poking their heads through rose bushes, and drifting along in little pompom accents above ground cover plants!
Alliums also make great combinations with taller border plants likephlox, yarrow, and speedwell!
